Chorispora tenella (Pallas) DC (BRA...Chorispora tenella (Pallas) DC (BRASSICACEAE)-Dickinson County: along racetrack at Norway Speedway at shire fairgrounds, Norway, 22 May 1999 Cusick 34970 (MICH, MSC NY); Washtenaw County: waste area, M-52 town of Chelsea, 3 May 1997 E Chittenden 1326 (MSC) Significance. hipped rocket previously has been reported in Michigan no other than from Hillsdale County (Fritsch 1993) Draba nemorosa L (BRASSICACEAE)-Delta County: sandy roadside, 1st Ave N and 8th St Escanaba, 21 May 1999 Cusick 34941 (MICH, MSC NY) mowed, grassy field, Upper Peninsula State Fairgrounds, Escanaba, 21 May 1999 Cusick 34942 (MICH, MU) Significance. This is the first report of Draba nemorosa in Michigan in more than 150 years. The species formerly was known barely from a single collection in 1829 from St Clair shire (Voss 1985). Its occurrence in the Upper Peninsula should not get to as a surprise. The species is known from adjacent Wisconsin and nearby Ontario (Cusick, throughs obs.; M. Oldham, pers. comm) Authors disagree, however, forward whether or not Draba nemorosa is indigenous to this region. Morton and Venn (2000) treat it as native to Manitoulin Island, Ontario; Wetter et al. (2001) list it as non-native in Wisconsin. The early date of the previous Michigan collection certainly argues for an indigenous status. In Ontario, this species extends on clifftops, talus slopes and make open rocky habitats; it also is base in campgrounds and along roadsides (M Oldham, throughs comm.). Draba nemorosa in Michigan likely is a native species which is adaptable to anthropogenic habitats. It may have been rise aboveed because of its nondescript appearance and early blooming date. Lepdium ruderale L (BRASSICACEAE-Lapeer County: sandy territory Eastern Michigan Fairgrounds, Imlay City, 18 May 1999 Cusick 34906 & R RabeLer (MICH, MSC NY); Lenawee County: racetrack at shire fairgrounds, Adrian, 19 May 1997 Cusick 33747 & R Rabeler, (MICH), weedy chance Packard Road, Seneca Township, R Smith 3858 (MICH); Saginaw County: weedy earth county fairgrounds, Saginaw, 18 May 1999 Cusick 34914 & R Rabeler (MICH). Significance. These are the first 20th hundred collections of this weedy species in Michigan. Lepidium ruderale previously was known and nothing else from an 1877 collection from Wayne shire (Voss 1985). Plantago media L (PLANTAGINACEAE)Bay County: lawn of restaurant, M-13 Bay City, 19 May 1999 Cusick 34915 (MICH, MU NY); Washtenaw County: olden field, University of Michigan Botanical Gardens, Jun 2000 C Bailie sn (MICH, MSC) Significance. Hoary plantain previously was known in Michigan from pair collections in 1895 (Bay County) and 1919 (Oakland County) (Vos 1996) It's remarkable that more than a hundred years has passed between the discoveries of this species in Bay shire Poa bulbosa L. ssp vivipara (Koeler) Arcangeli (POACEAE)-Delta County: grassy field, Upper Peninsula State Fairgrounds, 21 May 1999 Cusick 34943 (MICH); Dickinson County: along racetrack at Norway Speedway at shire fairgrounds, Norway, 22 May 1999 Cusick 34971 (MICH, MSC MU); Mackinac County: sandy soil, campground, Straits State Park, s of St. Ignace, 20 May 1999 Cusick 34935 (MICH). Significance. These are the first records of this viviparous grass from Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Poa bulbosa is known from scattered counties in the lower peninsula (Guala 1987 Cusick, fors obs.). Taraxacum palustre (Lyons) DC (ASTERACEAE)-Chippewa County: along roadside, Whitney Bay Rd Drummond Island, 27 May 1997 E Weatherbee 974 (MICH); St Clair County: picnic area, Lakeport State Park, N of Lakeport, 22 May 1997 Cusick 33782 (MICH, MU NY) grassy country county fairgrounds, Goodells, 23 May 1997 Cusick 33795 (MICH); Sanilac County: grassy roadside, M-25 s of Port Sanilac, 22 May 1997 Cusick 33779 (MICH, MU) Significance. The first collections of this European species from Michigan. Taraxacum palustre has been expanding its range east and north since its discovery in the 1980's in strange York, Ontario and Quebec (Oldham et al. 1992) Marsh dandelion now shoots throughout southwestern Ontario (Cusick and M Oldham, bys obs.). This species is raise in moist situations such as ditches and roadsides. It also is tolerant of salt-rich substrates. It likely will continue to spread across the Michigan landscape. I thank Michael J Oldham, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, and A.A. Reznicek and Edward G Vos University of Michigan, for their considerable help with this note.
