Gaura lindheimeri Engelmann and A. Gray (ONAGRACEAE)-Liberty County: mustered about 9.7 km NE of Bristol, Florida, onward state road 12 (T1N, R7W S11) (30?° 29'27''N 84?° 54'07''W) growing forward a roadside in an area of to a high degree well-drained, sandy soils that naturally support longleaf pine/scrub oak woodlands. 13 June 2003 M.Darst. & A. Gholson sn (FSU) Significance. This is the first record of Gaura lindheimeri in Florida. Gaura lindheimeri is native to south-central and southeastern Texas and southern Louisiana and is "widely cultivated and occasionally established elsewhere" (Correll and Johnston 1970) Gaura lindheimeri has also been deduceed in central and northwestern Louisiana (Thomas and Alien 1998) Gaura lindheimeri was reported as not spontaneous outside of Texas and Louisiana from Raven and Gregory (1972). However, M??nz (1938) cited the same specimen of Gaura lindheimeri from Mississippi (Howell 746) in his revision of Gaura, and a single specimen from Alabama (Mobile shire Barbara Lund #285, 13 April 1957) is in the RK Godfrey Herbarium (FSU) at Florida State University. The origin of this plant in Florida is not apparent as there are no nearby dwellings, and no roadside plantings have been made in the area.
