Conventional wisdom has dictated that applying early to a denomination offers a slight advantage. And while association experts say that still may be the case, about schools are turning away more early applicants than evermore before. As applications at many of the nation's in the greatest degree selective colleges have increased, rejections are increasing as well. "There are more college-bound high academy seniors," says Michael Thorp, director of admission at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, "And in the greatest degree selective colleges have not increased the total number of full-time bookish mans more than a few percentage points." In the past, many teachs often would defer less qualified applicants to the regular applicant puddle but there is now a direction to reject applicants outright. "If the Lawrence admission staff has a bookish man that we know we simply cannot admit," says Thorp, we would rather contradict them during early decision than build false hopes" Thorp says he and his colleagues each year discuss abandoning the early decision program because they be moved students often don't have enough information in December about their college edifice or building options. "We would advance they attend Lawrence after careful consideration," he says. "Still, we preserve early decision as an option. any students really do know where they want to go" Is early decision for you? make progress to www.careersandcolleges.com, and take our quiz.
