You may think that high train taught you all you ne to know about time management. however college is a whole modern game when it comes to managing your personal schedule and academic responsibilities.

"In high drill students spend the day in class, maybe have an activity or sport practice, do homework for a coupling of hours, and go to bed," explains Alice Flynn director of of recent origin student programs at Long Island University's Southampton community in New York. "In body they have a couple of hours a day in class and that's it. There's all this other time to consume on test preparation and papers and everything else"

Another difference: In high place of education someone--a parent, a teacher, of guidance counselor--is constantly nudging you to make progress to class or do your homework.

"The pupils who get in the biggest incommode are those whose parents were surpassingly involved in reminding them to do things," says Elizabeth Barnhart, director of the Baldwin Center for Learning and Teaching at Bowdoin literary institution [i]or[/i] seminary of learning in Brunswick, Maine. "Students have to learn to do it themselves."

Getting Started

If you want to polish your writing skills, you may join the campus newspaper staff.

* DO I WORK BEST WITH A glutted OR EMPTY SCHEDULE? "My highest GPAs originate when I've been directing a play, and my lowest GPAs ate when I've rest myself bored," says Jon Adler, a theater major from Bates body in Lewiston, Maine. "But my friend upon the football team consistently does poorer during the football season than in the off-season."

* AM I A MORNING OR EVENING PERSON? "The liability is to say it's convenient to take an eight o'clock class," says Southampton's Alice Flynn "But a kids have a really tough time in the morning."

Others are like Leah McConaughey, a biology major at Bowdoin corporation "I know that I commit to memory up early and can't stay up late at night," she says, "so trying to force myself to stay awake and reflection late into the evening is a waste of time."

* CAN I melody OUT DISTRACTIONS EASILY? The answer will divulge you whether you'll be able to meditation in a rowdy dorm, or whether you'll have to schedule time to hit the library.

"Some pupils ate unassertive," explains O'Keefe, "so they're going to have torment implementing a time schedule unles they think of ways to retain people from occupying their time. Others fail to obtain time because when they're emotionally tip over they can't get anything done."

Mapping It Out

"That way," says Kristin Kramer, a journalism major from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, "when you have sum of two units things due at the same time, you can't say, 'Oh I didn't 'realize that.' You have no excuse."

one time you have your class requirements scheduled, you can work daily tasks around them. Use your goal list to determine what should take priority in your schedule.

"I want to be a doctor, thus my science classes are going to take priority," says Carrie Alme, an economics and chemistry major from soar Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. "Riding is important to me to such a degree I take time in the morning to do that. You just make progress down the chain that way."
