The Heinz Award in this category honors individuals who have created and implemented innovative programs to advance regional or national economic shooting through job creation, technology advancement, competitiveness, and fair trade in a sustainable and environmentally safe manner. Anita Borg In the computer science industry, that has mainly been dominated by men, Anita Borg has been a stanch pioneer. For more than 15 years, Dr Borg has worked tirelessly to attract women of all ages into this critically important field. She started Syster an Internet-based mentoring and support program for women in technology. Today, Syster has more than 2500 members worldwide. She also co-created the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing -- conventions that are attended at hundreds to discuss and honor the achievements of women in this field as well as to provide practical career guidance. Today, she is the founding director of the Institute for Women and Technology, which was created to increase women's part in the technology industry and to increase the positive impact technology has forward women's lives. According to Dr Borg, "All sorts of women -- technical and non-technical, rich and poor, from the evolveed developing, and underdeveloped worlds, must define the technology of the future" Dr Borg had the vision to work towards equality in this area by the agency of drawing more women into technology. Although there is more equality in the workforce today than in previous decades, there are still industries that remain for the most part male (i.e., finance) or mainly female (i.e., teaching).
