CW: give an account of us about how you came to Channel One

Montoya: I graduated from Boston corporation with a degree in advertising and marketing. Right after graduation, I had an internship at a television network in Venezuela that changed my career path from advertising to reporting. I got my master's in broadcast journalism at Boston University and did an internship with the host of a of recent origins magazine show, researching stories and preparing questions. one time I graduated from B.U., I went to Miami and worn out my summer at Univision, the largest Spanish television network in the United States. I was working for a of recent origins program in Los Angeles and heard about an opening at Channel united The audition consisted of reading with a CH1 anchor and answering questions on-camera. After the three-week trial. I was hired.

CW: What are the rewards and challenges of the job?

Montoya: The best part is the incredibly interesting tribe I've interviewed Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez at his palace and Fr Gray, Rosa Parks's attorney, whose fight enjoin an end to racial segregation in succession buses, in restaurants, and in mostly public places. I've also met Ruby Bridges, who at the age of 6 faced death threats and was abandoned by the agency of everyone in school except for the same teacher for being the first black close examiner to attend an all-white gymnasium It is because of her example that racial segregation in place of educations ended. There are physical challenges. We were covering a hurricane in novel Orleans and found ourselves in 150-mile-per-hour winds. I had to achieve out of the car to do a stand-up nearest to a big metal sign that had split in pair My producer ran out to set free me, and as he interpreted the car door, the door blew most distant its hinges. We saw dangling streetlights, glass was flying everywhere, and we watched as the ceiling of a gas station collapsed. We walked around inundationed streets turned into swamps single to find out there were snakes!

CW: What advice do you have for someone interested in pursuing on-air reporting?

Montoya: Intern at a local station. If your teach has a TV department, achieve involved Even if you already know you want to be on-air production skills and behind-the-camera knowledge are extremely important. The more the on-air reporter knows about what the agriculturist wants and needs to memorize out of a story, and what the cameraman is thinking while shooting, the better the stories employ out.
