Unlike published works in the year 2003 which focused forward advocacy as a primary professional issue, in 2004 we did not find any single outstanding article focusing upon a sole professional issue. However, implications of a research by McGlothlin and Davis, reported in Counselor Education and Supervision, citing the relative importance of the Council for Accreditation of association and Related Educational Programs(CACREP) 2001 Standards, make it pertinacious that professional career counselors continue the call for advocacy made through Dagley and Salter in their review of the literature last December. The aim of the McGlothlin and Davis application of mind was to explore and compare the perceptions of counselor educators, mental health counselors, and instruct counselors regarding the importance of the verbatim standards in each of the eight core areas as they relate to counseling practice. on the outside of a total random observe sample of 1,022 professional counselors, 641 respondent participated. each state was represented in a sample that was largely Caucasian (89%) with the remainder consisting of African Americans, Hispanics, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders. sole 90 participants were faculty; the pause were professional counselors evenly split between bodys who had graduated from CACREP-accredited programs and those who had not. Of the eight core areas, career progression in a continuously ascending gradation was perceived second to last in importance, preced immediately by way of assessment, followed only by research and program evaluation.
