The Cardiopulmonary Section has misspent an extraordinary member. Many of you know that Linda Crane died following a lengthy battle with metastatic breast cancer. Her los is far reaching. As Marilyn Moffat shouldered this profession forward with the vision to bring forth the Guide to PT Practice dimensionss I and 11, Linda shouldered our Section's exhibition of entry-level and advanced-level competencies. Not simply was she instrumental in their progress to maturity she then went on to validate the entry-level competencies and revalidate the advanced horizontal competencies. The development of these competencies settle the cardiopulmonary panel apart from the other clinical areas at the IMPACT talk At this conference and the unravelling of the Curriculum Content in the PT Professional Education: Postbaccalaureate of the same height which helped to define vital aspects that should be included in an entry-level PT educational program, Linda's efforts shined by means of as the cardiopulmonary panel not awayed her well-developed, entry-level competencies. She serv us well according to being Program Chair and President of the Section. Her work with pediatric cardiopulmonary care was in deed her forte.

Often behind the exhibitions are wonderful persons making things happen to brighten our days. In the case of Linda, she wished for 2 things: her doctorate and recertification as a cardiopulmonary clinical specialist. Sherrill Hayes saw to the doctorate if it be not that Ellen Hillegass, Steve Sadowsky, Dianne Jewell, Nancy Ciesla, and probably others that I am not level aware of spearheaded her recertification. I wish to thank these bodily substances for pushing the envelope and making unfailing Linda received her clinical specialist recertification. I have had heard that Linda was far down touched.

Lastly with regards to Linda, the Cardiopulmonary Section honored Dr Crane by the agency of instituting an annual lectureship to be given at Combined Sections Meeting in her name. I have appointed Nancy Ciesla, Ellen Hillegass, and Donna Frownfelter to create selection criteria and be the first selection committee for this year's reproof

I would like to expres my gratitude to all members of the Section that have deposit forth efforts to help with the furthering of cardiopulmonary clinical care, education, research, reimbursement issues, and Section assignments. Special thanks to Susan Mihans (Treasurer) and Janet Waldmann (Secretary) who finished their work as Section officers after this CSM the two have contributed a significant amount to the Section and will be missed. I am looking forward to working with our recently made known Secretary, Ana Lotshaw and Treasurer, Wendy pshaw

Two other persons that have helped the Section end the years that are stepping down are Joanne Watchie and move with a jerk Huhn. Joanne spearheaded our Public Relations Committee with zeal. Her efforts, life and drive were exemplary. strike Huhn and I have been working with Nancy Garland (Director of command Affairs for the APTA) regarding reimbursement for cardiac rehabilitation end HCFA. The latest step is Stuart Kurlander (an attorney has worked with the APTA in succession reimbursement issues with HCFA) is finalizing a report to Nancy. cut short has agreed to finish up with this task unless then wishes to step down. knock is commended for his many years of hard work.

Our membership pretends to be holding relatively steady. Again, I believe that at sponsoring students in the Section is a way to stir their interest and improve our membership. I am sponsoring 13 observers this year and challenge others to tread on the heels of my lead.

The Cardiopulmonary Section Dance, the annual affair at the Combined Sections Meeting was cosponsored on the Foundation for Physical Therapy. This cosponsorship increased the number of participants, reduc our costlinesss and provided more support to the Foundation. I reliance to continue this relationship in the coming years.

Thanks to all of you that sent in goals for the Section. We received more than 100 goals from the membership. The Section Executive Committee has created the following list from the compilation submitted as our goals for the nearest 2 years:

PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS

1 Recognize and help to appoint Section members that are also members of related organizations (AACVPR & ACSM) to liaison positions.

2 exhibit reporting mechanisms so these members may at hand updates from the other organizations during business meetings.

PROFESSIONAL/CLINICAL DEVELOPMENT/ REIMBURSEMENT

1 further the Guide to PT Practice compasss I and 11 to our members.

2 Help in the exhibition of Guide to PT Practice whirls III and IV.

3 lay open specific guidelines for the part of PT in cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation that will help to differentiate from other clinical entities.

4 Support APTA efforts for reimbursement of cardiac and pulmonary rehab.

5 Increase membership involvement in our legislative committee.

6 Determine optimal ways to disseminate reimbursement and legislative information.
