Greetings to all. I have just 3 poi...Greetings to all. I have just 3 points I wish to make. Point 1 I am self-conscious of this Section. I am really presumptuous of what this Section is accomplishing. Our Motion (shown below) regarding therapeutic exercise passed in the APTA's House of Delegates (HOD) in Indianapolis. I be excited that it is very important for all of us to take an time and reflect on this. This is the proces through which we affect change in our Association and PT practice here in the US. It started with a interest raised by Dr. Eduard Gappmaier at our Section's Business Meeting in June 1998 regarding the credentialing of a "Clinical Exercise Physiologist" to perform many of the tasks that we as PT perform. At the meeting was Cynthia Zadai whose knowledge regarding the proces of getting a Motion heard at the HOD was essential (and I really mean essential). Last year, our Motion was not uniform heard in the HOD owed to its placement. This year with the help of with equal reason many individuals, Sections and States, our Motion passed in succession consent. This means that the HOD at no time even debated the issue forward the floor and all of are hard work prior to and at the meeting paid distant from Some of the individuals that originate to mind that helped include Dr Ellen Hillegass, Dr Eduard Gappmaier, Martha Garlick, Mike LaMothe, Dr Re Humphrey Jonathan Cooperman, Anita Bemis, Mary Sinnott, Dr Toby in extent Stephen Levine, and I am infallible that I am leaving many along (sorry). Mostly, the person that helps me with these issues and does more for this Section (primarily behind the scenes) is Cynthia Zadai. Having her forward the Reference Committee and explaining to me to what extent the process really works made this all follow to fruition. The Motion that passed reads as follows: RC 53-00 POSITION onward DELIVERY OF THERAPEUTIC EXERCISE TO bodys WITH MOVEMENT RELATED IMPAIRMENTS, FUNCTIONAL LIMITATIONS, AND DISABILITIES That the following position be adopted: POSITION upon DELIVERY OF THERAPEUTIC EXERCISE TO someones WITH MOVEMENT RELATED IMPAIRMENTS, FUNCTIONAL LIMITATIONS AND DISABILITIES The American Physical Therapy Association, in an effort to safeguard the public, supports the position that bodily substances with movement related impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities will receive the highest quality of care when therapeutic exercise is delivered at qualified practitioners. The Association will continue to monitor and accord to any proposed credentialing, accreditation, licensure, or other regulatory efforts of individuals or assign places tos who seek to be recognized as qualified to perform therapeutic exercise forward persons with movement related impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities. This was my first real experience in the legislative arena and did I learn things!!!!!! Point 2 Our Section Membership during this time of overall decreasing APTA enrollment has dropp slightly. I do believe that we can increase our membership as tread close upons I would like each of you to identify a PT educational program that you wish to associate yourself with and pick disclosed (by whatever means you be excited necessary) 5 to 10 scholars that you wish to sponsor to make scholar members. The cost to you is solitary $10 per student but the benefit to our Section and the PT profession would be plenteous greater. These individuals are our future! formerly they receive our Journal and behold what we're all about hopefully many of them will continue to remain members. I will be printing the names of the individuals that make this commitment and the of recent origin student members (both if they wish) in my nearest Letter from the President. Please make each effort to have your name forward this list. Point 3 I can hardly believe that 3 years is almost up already. I have really take delight ined being President of our Section. I have been asked to be Director of the Program at Shenandoah University. This is a strange role for me and will require a significant amount of time to approach up to speed. I believe that I must pace down as President since this also requires a significant amount of time (and I ne to squander time with Linda Paferi, my wife). I am hoping that with the Section doing as well as we are doing, there will be several individuals that will "belly up to the bar" and contact the Nominating Committee. This work at jobs offers travel, meeting with outstanding individuals, a awesome Executive Committee (that will help out) my support, and great pay!!! thus I was kidding about the last the same As always this Section continues to be a mighty component within the APTA. It is the dedication and hard work by dint of all of you that make this possible. Thank you all for all of your support, Steve H Tepper PhD PT President Copyright Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy Journal Sep 2000 |
