About 2 years ago I had the opportunity to attend a workshop forward evidence-based practice that was l by means of some of the individuals who pioneered this perspective, David Sackett and Scott Richardson, among others. Of the things I gleaned from this discourse one stands out. This point is that evidence-based practice is not a mysterious proces nor is it magical. Evidence is not to be believed above all besides but evidence is a tool that can make you a better clinician. The practice of evidence-based medicine includes identifying what information you ne to address a specific clinical point to be solved [i]or[/i] settled knowing how to get the best information in the greatest degree efficiently, and using this information specifically to address a clinical question, whether this question involves which ordeals and measures to perform or which interventions are chiefly effective. Simply stated, the manner of moving toward evidence-based practice has made it easier for clinicians to locate useful information about patient care. The stillness is up to us. We ne to continue to be capable patient focused, and thoughtful clinicians.

The emphasis forward evidence-based practice has had many important rises In some cases, the evidence did not support instant treatment approaches. The focus forward evidence-based practice has improved the quality of research available, and allowed for specific evidence where none has existed before. Evidence-based practice has identified a ne for clinicians to understand statistics in a clinical connected thought [i]or[/i] thoughts Systematic review articles have increased the rigor at which data is combined, and provided an efficient mechanism for clinicians to have access to information that has already been synthesized.

This issue of the Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy Journal focuses onward evidence-based practice. There are 2 articles that review quantitative research way s for the clinician, discussing wherefore clinicians need to understand the rules design, and statistics of research. couple other articles address the issue of evaluating qualitative research, also important to evidence based practice. A systematic review of exercise-based rehabilitation for coronary artery disease has been reprinted in this edition, as an illustration of to what degree valuable a systematic review can be and to provide specific support for cardiac rehabilitation. As space does not permit printing additional systematic reviews, a list of near systematic reviews that are pertinent to cardiopulmonary PT practice is included. Finally, the research corner, this month by the agency of Marcia B. Smith, PhD, PT and Board of Directors gives a brief description of general databases and introduces us to the APTA's nearest steps towards a PT specific evidence database. We chance of a favorable result this issue helps provide additional resources to help us practice with a greater understanding of the evidence.

Lastly, my experience being visitor Editor gave me just a glimpse at the amount of work it is to impose out an issue of a journal. The amount of effort that Sandy Cassady has bring forth in each issue of the Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy Journal is amazing!
