It has been one as well as the other a privilege and a pleasure to labor for as the Editor of the Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy Journal for the past 7 years. Before I leave this position, I ne to thank a number of individuals who assisted with this publication and my part in this position.

Sharon Klinski has serv as the managing editor of this journal from one extremity to the other of my tenure. Sharon does a fortune of behind the scenes work for our Section publication that you really do not understand until you become an editor. She is really the united who pulls all of the materials together and interfaces with everyone from the authors, to the advertisers, and printers to help us originate each issue. I can disclose you, quite honestly, that I would not have stayed in this position for 7 years if it were not for her assistance and support. In fact, a coupling years ago the Orthopaedic Section chanceed Sharon from our journal to manage any other responsibilities. The one issue that she was away was a nightmare for me We (myself and other Section editors) were excessively pleased when Sharon returned to our publication!

One of the advantages of serving for several consecutive years was the opportunity to work with for a like reason many elected officers and committee chairs. Presidents Frownfelter Tepper and Jewell and all of the members of the Executive Committee have been greatest in number supportive of our publication. They agreed to test some of my ideas and proposals to help the journal expand in ease and size. Special thanks to Marilyn Brodsky Carole Teitelbaum, and staff at Advertising Assistance, Inc. by the and of their help, we have raised throughout $55,000 in the last 4 years to counterbalance the cost of producing the journal.

Throughout my limit several Section members have helped immensely. Cathy Certo serv as the delegate Editor and was always available when I destitutioned extra assistance. Associate Editors Jane Eason, Susan Scherer, Cythnia Zadai, Nancy leeward and Gary Brooks, assisted in more ways than I can mention. Special thanks to Tanya LaPier who perform the operations indicated ined the Research Corner feature and helped participate in many planning meetings for the Journal. Thank you to all of the Board members and reviewers for their expertise and to the all of the authors who submitted their hard work to the journal above the years.

My husband, Ray, and our children-Michelle, Matthew, and Ryan-are true pleased that my time as editor is coming to an extremity Late nights and weekends worn out at the office should be happening les often (I promise!). I would like to thank my colleagues in the Physical Therapy Department at St Ambrose University who not no other than supported my efforts but also came to understand to what extent crazy things become when deadlines approach. They jokingly ask what I'm going to do with my released time. Many graduate students that have worked for me above the years have helped immensely with the journal.

A same special thanks you to my friend, mentor, and former instructor, Dr David Nielsen. When I chronicleed in the physical therapy program at The University of Iowa, I did not equal realize that physical therapists were involved in caring for patients with heart and lung disease. As he has done for many other graduate scholars Dr. Nielsen opened my estimates up to the opportunities in this specialty area, direct ed me down the road of academia, and encouraged me to say ye to the challenge of Editor when I was invited in 1994 Thanks!

This tinal issue in 2001 is a special issue in succession a very contemporary and important topic. visitant Editor, Susan Scherer, coordinated and helped edit the manuscripts that make up this special issue. I trust that you will find this issue a welcome addition to your library. As the APTA launches more work in this area to help our entire profession, we should be grateful for all of the evidence already accomplished and compiled in the areas of cardiovascular and pulmonary care.

Please join me in welcoming and supporting our strange Editor, Dr. Jane Eason. She has the qualities and the drive to take this journal to higher heights. well adapted Luck, Jane! Now it is your bend ............
