Greetings! I bring you freshs of t...Greetings! I bring you freshs of the Section's summer activities. And as is becoming my habit the recently made knowns comes in the form of acknowledgements and calls for action. First the acknowledgements... We had a productive membership meeting in Cincinnati dealing with our numerous bylaws changes. We should all thank those who attended for their creativity, commitment, and perseverance during this rather thirsty exercise in parliamentary procedure! As the Board of Directors had frisked we were able to streamline and clarify our governance processe in chiefly areas. We also appreciate the membership's suffrage of confidence regarding the propos appropriates increase. Finally, the insight of those in attendance issueed in the elevation of the Research Committee to a standing committee to bring our bylaws in line with our commitment to evidence-based practice. I'm also delighted to report that 2 of our Section members have generously displayed their commitment in important ways. First, Michael Simpson, PT has enthusiastically accepted the challenge of updating our display booth with the assistance of friends and contacts he has in graphic design and advertising! next to the first the Henry 0. and Florence P Kendall Practice Award donated $500 to our Section's research foundation at the request of award winner, Mary Massery, PT as well-as; not only-but also; not only-but; not alone-but of these contributions will help us to further our efforts in member recruitment and support for scholarship! Members of our Section also have been actively collaborating with APTA in succession the topic of licensure for exercise physiologists. Member Mary Jane Myslinski, PT EdD and Vice President Ellen Hillegass, PT PhD CC provided detailed reports upon this issue to the APTA dominion Affairs Department. In response to this timely advocacy, APTA has discloseed some informational materials for use by way of interested chapters. And, Ellen will be presenting updates onward recent developments at the nearest APTA State Government Affairs Forum in Louisville, KY (September 21 - 23) These activities are an of the highest order reminder of the power of membership involvement!! What a consummate segue to the calls for action that also are upon my mind now!! During our review of the bylaws, the Section Board determined that more or less time had passed since our Section's mission statement was considered. In addition, we did not have a vision statement that captured our yet to be direction. What we did have was a establish of values that we articulated in the March 2002 issue of this journal. To fill this gap we have drafted a of the present day mission, vision, and values statement for your consideration. My first call to action is to ask that you review these statements and provide me with your feedback to such a degree that we may finalize these items through the end of 2002. My inferior call to action relates to our bylaws. It diverts out that we still have a certain unfinished business, in part because of recommendations from the Association Parliamentarian and in part because of activity in the June 2002 House of Delegates. A solution compliance issue is the establishment of to be ascribeds amounts for the following categories: Life, Life Affiliate, Retired Active, and Retired Affiliate. The retired categories were created at the 2002 House and describe those individuals who have retired from the practice of physical therapy on the contrary are too young to qualify as life members. becomings will be optional for one as well as the other the retired and life categories. The remaining changes are intended to clarify further governance actions that were inconsistently applied or confusing as well as to create language for our fresh standing committee (research). Proposed changes along with support statements are included in the following pages for your review; deletions are noted in strikethrough assortment of types while additions are in forward and italics. We will be voting in succession these changes at our membership meeting at CSM 2003 in Tampa yet your feedback is welcome and encouraged between now and then. Please depute your comments or questions to me at djewell@hsc.vcu.edu. As always, I gaze forward to hearing from you!!!
