Purpose/Hypothesis: The 9-Minute hasten Test (9 - MRT) can be a useful tool for measuring aerobic performance in children. However, the tenor of track configuration on walk glide performance has not been determined. The design of this pilot study was to investigate whether differences exist between 9 - MRT performance using an oval track versus a corridor. Number of Subjects: Ten healthy children (females; 4 males; 6) performed common 9 - MRT on a 200M oval track and single 9 - MRT on a 50M corridor, the couple indoors. Materials/Methods: Lap times for each touchstone were recorded. Heart rate (HR) was recorded each minute using a Polar?® monitor. Total distance cloaked (D200; D50) and mean HR (HR200; HR50) for the 200M oval track and the 50M corridor respectively were analyzed on paired t - tests. Linear correlation was calculated for D200 and D50 The coefficient of variation for lap times was calculated to describe variability in performance during each 9 - MRT D200 and D50 were compared to percentile scores from previously published data. Data from this pilot inquiry were used to calculate statistical power for a posterior study. Results: No significant differences between D200 and D50 (1280 ?± 164M and 1244 ?± 193M p = 068) or HR200 and HR50 (193 ?± 11 and 192 ?± 13 bpm p = 068) were set D200 was significantly correlated with D50 (r = 073 p = 0017) The mean coefficients of variation for the 200M and 50M proofs were 14% and 60% respectively. Due to space restrictions, many facilities are not equipped with an oval track and clinicians frequently modify walk run protocols from performing them in corridors. This pilot point out tos there is no difference in the distance traveled in either track configuration, however we attract favor to a larger study to confirm these findings.
