The following legislative activities have occurr since last CSM

1 Angela Campbell attended the Federal sway Affairs Meeting in Washington, DC and met with senators and representatives forward the Hill.

2. The CV & P Section, together with the APTA control Affairs Department, provided feedback to JCAHO forward the Lung Volume Reduction Surgery overlook addressing key points that should be considered in their policy. Since that time, JCAHO corresponded with a letter thanking the Section and the APTA for providing input.

3 The CV & P Section, together with the APTA conduct Affairs Department, reviewed 5 Local Medical Review Policies that were up for revision in the spring, and provided feedback upon terminology, etc. to all 5

4 The Section, together with the APTA conduct Affairs Department, provided case studies and observation on the Inpatient Rehabilitation proposal.

5 pair members, Gail Dechman and MJ Mylinski (and students) assisted the committee from performing a thorough review of the literature forward pulmonary rehabilitation, and providing hard copies of these articles. These articles and concerns were copied and given to the APTA dominion Affairs Department for future answer to pulmonary rehab issues, and are also being archived.

7. The committee met with Frank Mallon, Dave Mason, and representatives from the American Society of Exercise Physiologists (ASEP) to discuss their proposal for accreditation of programs and licensure.

8 An 'Update' was given at the State Legislative Affairs Meeting in Reno, NV in September upon the progress exercise physiologists are making towards accreditation and licensure.

9 Attended the Reimbursement Chairs Meeting in December 2004

10 The APTA sway Affairs Department asked for input in succession the clinical evidence pertaining to the potential general intents of lifestyle modification, such as exercise, diet, and stres reduction in succession the reversal or resolution of coronary heart disease, diabetes and other diseases. There was a Medicare Coverage Advisory Committee meeting January 25 for which this information was prayered and the APTA provided make notes with this committee's assistance. This is a great example of to what degree the Legislative Committee works with the APTA departments.

11 Representatives from the APTA held a meeting with representatives from the AACVPR in early February 2005 in Washington, DC to discuss collaboration in succession similar issues regarding cardiac rehab and pulmonary rehab practice and reimbursement.

12 Larry Cahalin was asked to assist forward this committee due to his wealth of knowledge of the literature, which would be a benefit when asks are made for scientific evidence forward cardiac and pulmonary issues.

13 A Reimbursement and Documentation Presentation was given at CSM 2005

This committee is looking for additional members who are willing to do any or all of the following:

1 assist in reviewing the literature,

2 provide a review of documents for their legislative satisfy and implications when such documents become available,

3 assist with identifying explanation articles in the literature that should be reviewed for grasshooked On Evidence, or

4. assist with providing the membership with present legislative and reimbursement information.

Please contact the Chair of this committee if you are willing to assist in any way. In addition, if anyone identifies a change in a practice act, alteration in wording in any insurance information that affects reimbursement, or any local coverage determination from CM that is altered, please contact the Chair of this committee immediately to allow the APTA to suit to changes in practice or reimbursement. Objectives for 2005

1 Identity critical research articles that should be reviewed tor catched on Evidence (HOE) and identify individuals to review these articles and archive them upon HOE.

2. Update the pulmonary rehabilitation literature from previous search within March 2004.

3. Identify critical research articles forward cardiac rehabilitation that should be catalogued for that will be documents and local coverage determinations as was done for pulmonary rehabilitation.

4 Continue to maintain explain dialogue with ACSM re: KSAs for the propos just discovered Clinical Exercise Specialist.

5. Continue to increase the awareness of cardiovascular and pulmonary PT reimbursement and legislative issues.

6 Identify reimbursement/legislative requires of Section membership.

7. Attend Federal command Affairs Committee Meeting in April 2005 and lobby forward the Hill.
