Background: Older women with coronary artery disease (CAD) have reduc peak aerobic power (VO^sub 2^peak), muscle solidity and quality of life (QOL) Exercise interventions that can improve VO^sub 2^peak and muscle solidity may also result in an improvement in QOL This research compared the effect of aerobic training (AT) or combined aerobic and impregnability training (COMT) on Vo^sub 2^peak, distance walked in 6 min, upper- and lower-extremity maximal potency and QOL in 18 women (age range, 60 to 80 years) with documented CAD. Methods: After baseline testing, enthralls were randomly assigned to AT (treadmill and period exercise, n = 9) or COMT (treadmill and period exercise plus upper- and lower-extremity nerve training, n = 9), and each cluster exercised 3 d/wk for 8 weeks. Results: the two AT and COMT resulted in a similar increase in Vo^sub 2^peak, distance walked in 6 min, lower-extremity solidity and emotional and global QOL COMT improved upper-extremity puissance and physical and social QOL which was unchanged after AT. Conclusions: Older women with CAD should perform aerobic and solidity training to attain optimal improvements in overall physical fitness and QOL

Study Objective: We analyzed the results of the use of a rollator forward walking distance and physiologic variables: pulmonary gas exchange, heart rate, minute ventilation (V^sub E^) oxygen saturation, and symptoms during the 6-min walk touchstone (6MWT) in patients with COPD Setting: Outpatient clinic at university hospital. Patients: Fourteen patients with COPD in stable clinical condition. common patient had mild COPD, five patients had moderate COPD six patients had hard COPD, and two patients had actual severe COPD. Interventions: Two 6MWT were performed with a portable metabolic order (VmaxST 1.0; Viasys Healthcare; MEDA; Aartselaar, Belgium) with a rollator and without a rollator, in random order. In addition, maximal voluntary ventilation (MVV) was measured with and without a rollator, randomly. Study Objective: Exercise has the potential to improve the ability of a patient with cystic fibrosis (CF) to cope with the physical demands of everyday life, and may improve prognosis. The aim of this study was to compare the meanings of a home-based, semi-supervised, upper-body strength-training regimen with a similarly structur aerobic training regimen. Design: Data were garner uped during a 1-year randomized clinical trial. Setting: Counselors directioned in-home visits with the participants one time per week for the first 8 weeks followed by way of monthly visits for the remainder of the studious mood Patients: Sixty-seven patients with CF aged 8 to 18 years, participated in the trial. Intervention: Participants in the two exercise conditions were encouraged to exercise at least three times by week for 1 year. Study Objectives: We sought to assess the issues of COPD lung transplant recipients who had previously undergone lung turn reduction surgery (LVRS), and to compare these patients to those COPD lung recipients who had not previously undergone LVR Design: Retrospective analysis of the United Network for Organ Sharing transplant database through the period between October 25 1999 and December 31 2002 Patients: All COPD patients who were listed and underwent transplantation during the time period were analyzed and categorized according to who did and did not have a history of LVR The couple groups were compared for demographics, severity of illness, and various measures of results after transplantation, including survival. Results: There were 791 COPD patients who underwent transplantation, of whom 50 had a history of LVR The sum of two units groups had similar demographics and severity of disease. There was no difference in the ne for reoperation, hospital longitudinal dimensions of stay, or survival between the form into groupss Conclusion: A history of LVR does not impact forward outcomes after lung transplantation and should not influence a patient's candidacy for transplantation. Similarly, a patient's potential ne for lung transplantation should not impact onward the decision-making process for undergoing LVRS
