Greetings for the fall season! I am...Greetings for the fall season! I am writing this alphabetic character having just returned from the House of Delegates and PT 2004 in Chicago. Of course, you are reading this in September to such a degree some of the information will not be recently made knowns but I want to do my to be paid diligence as your representative at these events First, the section sponsored an RC with the Connecticut Chapter updating language in the House position statement pertaining to medication use in physical therapy practice. Our intention was to: (1) clarify for what reason we use information regarding the events of medication on exercise and function in our examination, evaluation, and treatment planning processes; and, (2) update the information regarding specific medications used during physical therapy interventions. I am pleased to report that our RC was adopted. You will find the updated language in the House of Delegates Policies, along with details about other motions addressed in the House, in the members-only section of the APIA web site (Governance page). Second the national elections ensueed in some new faces joining the Board and Nominating Committee: Babette Sanders, PT M (secretary); Steve McDavitt, PT M FAAOMPT (Director); Ellen Spake, PT PhD (Nominating); and David Lake, PT PhD (Nominating). Incumbents RM Barney Poole PT M (Vice-speaker); R Scott Ward, PT PhD (Director); and Pauline Flesch PT MP (Director) were re-elect to other terms in their respective roles One of the first decisions made with the convening of the recently made known Board is the Board liaison assignments to constitutings and committees. Liaisons are an information conduit between element and committee leaders and the Board and APTA staff. In addition, they can be great mentors for leadership progression in a continuously ascending gradation and resources for ideas regarding composing operational initiatives and challenges. circulating Board member Janet Peterson, PT MA has rotated opposite to as our section liaison and handed the baton to Steve McDavitt. If you have the opportunity, please thank one as well as the other of them for their efforts forward our behalf. By the way, nominations for the 2005 elections are owing to APTA by November 1 2004 All nominations must be submitted electronically by the and of the APTA web site (Governance page). I encourage you to think about and submit names of individuals you know who would be hardy candidates for the following offices: Treasurer Speaker of the House Director (3 positions) Nominating Committee (2 positions) As for ongoing Section initiatives, we are working by the and of the design of the just discovered web site and will have a functional site ready to turn out to you at Combined sections Meeting, if not before. We are making similar progres upon the strategic plan; it will possess a reasonable piece of the agenda at our nearest membership meeting so that we can continue to obtain your feedback. The Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Dance for Physical Therapy Research is alive and well and will be held forward Wednesday, February 23, 2005 in just discovered Orleans (immediately following the opening ceremonies and reception). This adventure will help us celebrate our 30th anniversary as a section (the oldest in the APTA) for a like reason mark it on your calendar now! The section Board agreed that we will continue to divide the results from the Dance between our section research grant and the Foundation for Physical Therapy - the pair worthy and important causes toward which we chance of the desired end you will contribute. Last, however certainly not least, we have 2 of the present day products for sale through the section: the Heart Owner's Manual CD created and generously donated by way of Tanya LaPier, PT, PhD, CC and Kimberly Cleary, PT PhD and the Questions of the Heart disk, created and generously contributed on Steve Tepper, PT, PhD. The majority of advances from sale of these items pass to the section Research Grant, the Linda Crane Memorial Award supply as well as section donations to the Foundation for Physical Therapy. Also, don't forget the Monitoring Clinical answers to Exercise pamphlet authored by dint of Joanne Watchie, PT, MA, CCS As you can imagine, I'm the two impressed by and proud of our efforts and accomplishments as a section. I cannot say this repeatedly enough but each section member should take the time to thank our Board members for their creativity, commitment, and hard work. I could not provide you with all of this exciting recently made knowns without them!
