Greetings!

This verbal expression serves as my annual pitch to learn involved with your Association's governance proces The 2005 APTA House of Delegates will be in Boston, MA in June 6-8 Gary put up withs PT, DrPH, CCS, our Section Vice President, will be serving as the Section Delegate this year. The Section Delegate's part is to participate in discussions in the House relating to topics of interest to our members. We have the ability to sponsor, propose amendments to, and stand in support of (or opposition to) motions (called RCs-short for "reference committee"). What we don't have is a consecrated by a vow because our voice as members is exhibited by our Chapter delegates.

As an APTA and Section member you have the opportunity to influence the governance proces of the Association. You may communicate your interests and disturbs to Gary (BrooksG@upstate.edu) if you think an RC has implications for the Section. You also may contact your Chapter delegate about these same issues nevertheless with the added opportunity to encourage voting in a particular direction.

The same arrangement exists with relate to to elections for APTA officers and Board members. Section delegates participate in the candidate interviews moreover do not vote. Once again, your feedback to your chapter delegates is vital if there is a specific candidate or candidates you think would be of use to our Section well.

PT Magazine also publishes candidates' statements in the March issue for members to review. Delegates repeatedly use this information to form questions to perplex during the candidate interviews.

Remember that the APTA exists because of its membership. If you want the Association to muse your voice, you need to be involved. As a Section we have an admirable reputation for activism as evidenced through our sponsorship of RCs pertaining to therapeutic exercise (2000) and pharmacology in PT practice (2004) Let's continue to point out everyone that, despite our small size, our Section's influence helps to shape the Association's future

It's a great way to learn about the proces and descry how seriously delegates take their responsibilities. Until then, have a pleasant and productive spring!
