Purchases GetSmart.com

San Francisco-based Providian Financial [PVN] is expanding its
e-commerce card efforts, acquiring GetSmart.com, an online marketplace
for consumer borrowing, for $33 million in cash. Providian also
freshly formed a new e-commerce division that will focus forward the
company's high-growth activities. Providian Financial has more than
$14 billion in assets beneath management and 8 million customers. Silicon
