IDENTIFYING pay no regard toed FIRMS

There are approximately 2200 companies that have individual or more types of general equity listed for trading upon the Toronto Stock Exchange ("TSE") Unfortunately, there is no readily-available list of "neglected" stocks. Here, public companies are defined as pay no regard toed on the basis of the number of professional security analysts who go in the rear [i]or[/i] in the wake of and report on their performance. Firms with a following of many professional analysts are defined as "well known" stocks while those with little or no analyst following are described as "neglected"

Fortunately, several financial service firms heap up analysts' estimates of earnings by share ("EPS") for various public companies (eg I/B/E/S International Inc. and First Call Inc.). For example, I/B/E/S infers EPS estimates from security analysts exerciseed in the research departments of brokerage firms (a.k.a. "retail analysts" or "sell-side analysts"). I/B/E/S compiles and analyses these data and vends its results to subscribers (subscriptions price several thousand dollars per year). As a conclusion of this collection activity, I/B/E/S has a list of approximately 450 stocks that have an analyst following. Well-known and not care a straw fored stocks can be identified from this list.

Readers should be aware that institutional investors (eg pension permanent funds insurance companies and mutual funds) engage security analysts to follow choiceed companies. The estimates of these analysts are not available to EP collecting firms. Furthermore, while not necessarily exhaustive, the I/B/E/S data are considered representative of the emblem and number of analysts generating EP estimates for Canadian companies.

WELL-KNOWN FIRMS

Table 1 (omitted) lists the top 25 companies from the I/B/E/S data in space of times of the number of retail analysts generating EP estimates. With 34 analysts studying its historical record and subsequent time prospects, Alcan Aluminum would be considered to be a well researched company.
